How does the film The Truman Show tell the audience about the influence of the media?

Briefly explain what the film presents about the influence of the media and how does Truman show this?

=]|||have you seen the Truman Show?

the whole film is about a man being followed by cameras for his whole life without his knowledge- a big brother extreme.

for one, they use product placement in the programme (like the wife and the hot chocolate or whatever it is) so the audience can use/buy anything thats seen on the programme. and people DO buy loads of the stuff they see- thats influence.

its voyeuristic- this mans life is being documented completely which, if you think about it, is extremely boring. There are going to be hours of him on the loo, sleeping, eating, showering...etc. doing mundane every day tasks. BUT because the media is broadcasting it and therefore promoting it as an interesting programme, the audience view it as that. THATS INFLUENCE.

I mean, think about big brother. PEOPLE SPEND HOURS WATCHING THE HOUSE MATES SLEEPING. if you went to a house and watched a stranger sleeping in the real world you'd be called a stalker and a psycho, but as soon as the media gets involved and you dont even have to move from your chair...its entertainment. the media has the power to influence decisions on the moral correctness of a situation.

In terms of Truman, what an invasion of privacy!|||This helped me a lot! :)
