Is wearing Contact lenses in a film developing darkroom safe?

I've heard rumours such as "wearing contacts while developing film will cause the chemicals to melt your lenses to your eyes". Since that idea has entered my mind, I've worn my glasses in the darkroom while processing black and white film. Do any of you wear your contact lenses in your darkrooms, or does this "quote" have a bit of truth to it?|||Load of bollox.

If the chemicals melted plastics, then darkroom tongs, trays, reels, tanks etc etc would all be melted. I wear contacts %26amp; have never had as much as sore eyes or anything else happen to my lenses in the drakroom.|||No - youre not sticking your face in the chemicals and only if your careless with the chemicals then they will splash. So if your careful then youre fine. Youll just notice the brightness when you walk out again|||It is just as safe as wearing the glasses.|||It's true and if you wear glasses it will melt the frames to your head.
