What was the film called where 2 soldiers of 2 countries where placed on an island to fight for their country?

I think, in the end one was killed due to a hidden poisoned blade in a tree. They were sent there by their countries so that a war didn't ensue. I think it was a 60's or 70's film.|||Could you be thinking of Hell in the Pacific (1968) starring Lee Marvin?

Two men, one American and one Japanese, are marooned on an uninhabited Pacific island. In order to survive they must accept their differences and work together, despite their two countries being at war.

EDIT: You might be thinking of the made-for-TV movie called The Challenge (1970) starring Darrin McGavin and Mako

All-out war between the United States and an Asian country is averted when the two sides agree to settle their differences by each choosing a single soldier as champion and having the two men fight to the death on an isolated island. In the end, Gallery emerges victorious, but before he can signal the outcome, he succumbs to his wounds.

Cast:

Darren McGavin as Jacob Gallery

Broderick Crawford as Gen. Lewis Meyers

Mako as Yuro
