I am planning a feature film, and want to know what area on earth is the cheapest, including locations, cost of living there for a while, crew etc. I know that the UK tends to be rather pricey, what is africa, and say china like?
Any answers welcome! thanks|||Honestly with the new State Tax breaks its probably the U.S.- Places like Africa and China would be cheap in terms of cost of living, no permits, non-union crew, but what about equipment rentals, production resources, locations? All this adds up and unless you really need a location in a place like that, the cost of moving a production to an "exotic" locale in most cases defeats the purpose of shooting there.
In my experience, shooting in an area with an established film industry, access to equipment, locations and crew, is cheaper and easier, despite things like permits and union wages.
Pick your location based on your story, not cost, and shoot there- you'll figure out the money side if the location is right.
